Since November 2023, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) has been funding the ”State Initiative for Research Data Management in Lower Saxony” project with 15.7 million euros. All universities and higher education institutions under state responsibility in Lower Saxony are involved in the project, which will run for five years. The aim of this joint project is ”[…] to bring research data management in Lower Saxony to the wider scientific community and to create a comprehensive programme to support researchers.”[1]

The funding programme consists of three pillars: ”Pillar 1 establishes a central helpdesk, which will further develop support services in the form of a distributed network and make them available to all universities. Training and development of basic skills in research data management will be provided for those higher education institutions that have not yet established research data management services (pillar 2). And lastly, a project fund for particularly innovative projects with an expected impact beyond the own institution is available (pillar 3).”[1]

TIB is responsible for a work package that provides advisory and support services for members of higher education institutions in Lower Saxony.
