Six binder files and reels and reels of film material tell the adventure of an expedition to Mexico 30 years ago. With the “unearthing” of an ethnological film treasure, the preliminary end of the tale can be told in 2018. A contribution to the 2018 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.

The BMBF-funded project DELFT digitises 1,953 ethnological films from the IWF film stock. Several devices are used to determine the digitizability of the films. The diagnostic-scanner at the German Broadcasting Archive in Potsdam-Babelsberg combines these devices in one device.

Im BMBF-geförderten Projekt DELFT werden 1.953 ethnologischen Filme aus dem IWF-Filmbestand digitalisiert. Um die Digitalisierbarkeit der Filme festzustellen, kommen mehrere Geräte zum Einsatz. Der Befundungsscanner im Deutschen Rundfunkarchiv in Potsdam-Babelsberg vereint diese Geräte in einem Gerät.

An informative workshop on “Videos in Digital Libraries: What’s in it for Libraries, Publishers and Scientists?” took place during the conference “Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries” (TPDL) at Hannover Congress Centrum on 8 September 2016. The aim of the workshop was to initiate a discussion on the use and potential of videos as a method of scholarly communication, and was thus directed at researchers, science communicators, publishers and libraries.

New: RDF export of metadata from the TIB AV Portal

The German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) has set itself the goal of promoting the use and dissemination of its collections. Against this backdrop, TIB publishes the authoritative as well as time-based, automatically generated metadata of scientific videos from the TIB AV Portal as linked open data.
