The international workshop Provenance Loves Wiki: »Provenance Research + the Wikiverse« gathered art historians, museum and collection management specialists, computer scientists, data enthusiasts, and members of the Wikidata/Wikibase community, over two days at the offices of Wikimedia Germany in January in Berlin. Our blog post provides a review from the perspective of TIB’s Open Science Lab.

Since 2018, the TIB AV-Portal has been developed by a Scrum team at the TIB. In this blog post, we introduce you to the latest features that were implemented in 2023: Speech recognition with Whisper, videos in full HD quality, redesign for a more responsive frontend, optimisation of the search function, new highlighting function and modernisation of the media player. And, of course, there is also a sneak preview of the innovations planned for 2024.

Seit 2018 wird das TIB AV-Portal durch ein Scrum Team an der TIB weiterentwickelt. In diesem Blogartikel stellen wir die neuesten Funktionen vor, die 2023 implementiert wurden: Spracherkennung mit Whisper, Videos in HD-Qualität, Neugestaltung für ein reaktionsfähigeres Frontend, Optimierung der Suchfunktion, neue Highlighting-Funktion und Modernisierung des Media Players. Ein Rückblick auf die Konferenz „Open Up“: Welche Visionen, Strategien und Umsetzungskonzepte für die Digitalisierung der niedersächsichen Hochschullandschaft gibt es? Welche Unterstützungsstrukturen für offene Bildung an Hochschulen braucht es und wie können sie gestaltet werden? Das waren nur einige der Fragen, die die 200 Teilnehmenden am 20. und 21. Juni 2023 diskutierten.

In order to support the scientific use of established ontologies and terminologies, a Terminology Service was set-up by TIB in cooperation with the NFDI initiative: a single point of access to terminologies from a range of domains such as architecture, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics.

Um die wissenschaftliche Verwendung etablierter Ontologien und Terminologien zu unterstützen hat die TIB in Zusammenarbeit mit der NFDI-Initiative den TIB Terminology Service (TS) eingerichtet: eine zentrale Anlaufstelle für den Zugang zu Terminologien aus verschiedenen Bereichen wie Architektur, Chemie, Informatik, Mathematik und Physik.

The TIB is developing ConfIDent, a platform to provide sustainable information on scientific events as part of a DFG funded project. It is a service for researchers, universities, infrastructure institutions, and professional societies based on the FAIR principles. We launched ConfIDent last year, but since then the system has grown again and there is more to discover.

One of our main goals with ConfIDent is to build a registry of academic events without listing those that are predatory. This blog article describes the assessment workflow that is employed to achieve this and discusses its limitations.

The TIB video portal currently has almost 40,000 scientific videos from all disciplines and 700,000 visits per year. This blog post presents current further developments in 2022. These include easier findability of videos, an improved upload form and subtitling of videos.

Das Videoportal der TIB zählt derzeit knapp 40.000 wissenschaftliche Videos aus allen Fachrichtungen und 700.000 Besuche jährlich. Dieser Blogbeitrag stellt aktuelle Weiterentwicklungen im Jahr 2022 vor. Dazu gehören die leichtere Auffindbarkeit von Videos, ein verbessertes Uploadformular und die Untertitelung der Videos.
